If you’re going to sign contract of purcase $10 million yacht, you wouldn’t want to do it with a ballpoint. Fortunately, a pen valued at more than $1 million is available at the same place as the yacht – at the American Express World Luxury Expo, which runs at the Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh. From 30 March – 1 April, the wealthiest of India’s social circuit will assemble for a three-day auction of luxury goods in the capital. Some 50 luxury brands are expected to participate in the event, though only half would be auctioning products. One of them is Montegrappa Ultimate Centennial Dragon pen.
This one-of-its kind bejeweled dragon-themed pen was created in 2012 to celebrate Montegrappa’s 100 years since inception. Only 100 units of the Centennial Dragon series was made – 33 units in rose gold, 33 in yellow gold, 33 in white gold and one called the Ultimate Centennial Dragon.
The design of the pen draws inspiration from the Nine Dragon Wall at the Forbidden City in Beijing. The dragon has since ancient times been a symbol of power and prosperity in China, and the wall at this historical palace was built in 1773 during the reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Montegrappa’s Ultimate Centennial Dragon pen is made of 300 gm of solid gold, studded with flawless diamonds, rubies and a pearl.
If the pen doesn’t get sold in Riyadh, it will go through a second round in New Delhi at The Luxury Festival to be held from April 1-3 where it will be one amongst a list of other exclusive products to be auctioned off.
