Architect and 3d artist Alex Hogrefe designed this daring concrete retreat carved into the cliffside in Iceland with breathtaking Oceanic views. The house made of concrete, metal and glass emerges from the rock to form a vertiginous cantilever over the water. The main entrance is located further into the landmass and leads visitors underground, but soon exposes them to expansive views of both the interior and exterior. The floor-to-ceiling windows and open balcony allow for optimal natural light, and offer up stunning views of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans.
“I have already generated a lot of close-up vignettes, but nothing really showing the project its totality,” he said. “I chose a view that would grab some of the horizon, but also show the cliffs crashing into the water below.”
The Iceland Cliffside Retreat is a work of fiction, but Hogrefe’s 3D images make it feel more real than the view outside your window. Here’s hoping this retreat makes the shift from concept to reality over the coming years.
