Auction house H&H achieved record-breaking figure with the sale of the classic Aston Martin which belonged to the husband of the British Queen. A sum of £350,000 is greatly surpassed that of the £80,000 which was the previous record for a car of this type. The 1954 convertible Lagonda 3-Litre DHC, finished in a bespoke shade of Edinburgh Green, was made to order for Prince Philip, winning Aston Martin its first Royal Warrant.

There is no doubt that this was the favorite car of Prince Philip. In ancient times, before the rigorous security measures, Duke of Edinburgh was constant behind the wheel. The car was used to ferry Prince Charles to and from Cheam prep school and for trips to Cowdray Park for the polo.

When the royal couple traveled abroad, the car was transported by boat to the destination. So, Prince Philip drove it in almost all countries of Commonwealth and during his visit to the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

The general public will have the opportunity to see this vehicle on the Special Event on June 26 on the occasion of the Queen’s 90th birthday. On this occasion at Buckingham Palace will be exposed to light 90 British classic cars, one from each year of her life.
