Louis Vuitton will celebrate “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez – Louis Vuitton” in Tokyo from April 23rd until June 19th, 2016. Curated by Olivier Saillard, the exhibition retraces Louis Vuitton’s great journey from 1854 till today, through archives of the Family’s founding members to those who create the Louis Vuitton of today. Since the end of the 19th century, the House has always maintained strong ties with Japan.
From the mon (family crest) inspirations of the Monogram canvas, to the long list of renowned Japanese clients such as the political leader Taisuke Itagaki, and the collaborations with Japanese contemporary artists from Murakami to Kusama.
“Louis Vuitton has always been at the forefront of creation and innovation, today live over a century ago. Constantly taking inspiration from our past we craft the trends of today. Olivier Saillard has immersed himself in the Louis Vuitton archives to decode its secrets. He delivers a fresh vision of our past, present and future.” says Michael Burke, CEO of Louis Vuitton.
The exhibition will be held in a bespoke structure in Kojimachi, the neighbourhood in Tokyo, where in 1978 Louis Vuitton opened its first store in Japan.
