Product designer Oscar Lhermitte and design studio Kudu teamed up to create the first topographically accurate lunar globe, displaying the current lunar phases at any given time. MOON is 1/20 million scaled lunar globe (ø 173mm, ø 6.8 inches) with LED light recreating the current lunar phase. When operating in Live mode, the real-time internal clock and gearing system mimics a lunar month (a rotation that takes 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 2.80 seconds) and syncs perfectly with the Moon and Sun’s positions.
As the round light or “sun,” rotates around the globe, dramatic shadows are cast across its surface.
The Kickstarter was fully funded this project (541 backers pledged £145,393 to help bring this project to life). It’s available for preorder now, and the team will be working to determine an exact delivery schedule over the next few weeks.
