At this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW Motorrad introduced the R 5 Hommage as an attempt to showcase the essence of motorcycling in the modern era. Original R 5 has long been a role model to all BMW’s engines – from the end of the 30s until the 50s, and inspiration has always been known 500 cc factory racing model from 1935. To create R5 Hommage, BMW used the original, but damaged 500 cc R5 boxer engine that was owned by Sebastian Gutsch. The residue was made manually.

As for performance, the original R 5 had 24hp at 5500 rpm and was able to reach a top speed of 135 km/h, which in those days was excellent even for 750cc models. Hommage is far more powerful because of the new supercharger, which increases the power of the engine on not stated value.
Other modifications include a new exhaust system, new suspension on the rear wheel and new brakes.
