LOUIS XIII Cognac has partnered with Hermès, Saint Louis, and Puiforcat to create a limited-edition masterpiece called ‘L’Odyssee d’un Roi’. This is a bespoke tribute to the LOUIS XIII mythical journeys through the ages, in a collective act of creation uniting LOUIS XIII with three prestigious French luxury houses: Hermès, Saint Louis, and Puiforcat. The bespoke trunk created for ‘L’Odyssee d’un Roi’ was hand-stitched by Hermès using the finest leathers.
Modelled on a classic steamer trunk, it evokes a bygone era of luxury travel. The design of the interior was created for a very precise function, which is to luxuriously house a unique magnum decanter of LOUIS XIII.
The special crystal decanter and its elegant matching serving glasses were mouth-blown, cut and engraved entirely by hand at the royal cristallerie Saint Louis. The ancient, painstaking technique of copper-wheel engraving has given these crystal works their regal profile. The liquid inside is a special blend of LOUIS XIII Cognac, which takes over 100 years to create, enriched with a selection of the house’s oldest treasures from Grande Champagne.
The white gold pipette was forged by hand by the Art Deco silversmith Puiforcat for the ritual of service, using a centuries-old method. The craftsmen shaped, planished, stamped and engraved each of the three pipettes.
More than 50 individual artisans have devoted over 1,000 hours per piece to produce the three bespoke masterpieces of ‘L’Odyssee d’un Roi’. Each is unique and will be presented at exclusive events in culture capitals on different continents as part of a yearlong travelling exhibition, and after that they will be sold at auction by Sotheby’s, as of September 2016, with all proceeds benefiting THE FILM FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization founded by Martin Scorsese.
