Woolmers Park, a sprawling English estate on almost 250 acre of land that was once owned by Queen Elizabeth’s grandparents has gone up for sale. An enormous Grade II listed estate where a young Queen Lizzy first fell in love with horses, can now be yours for £30 million ($56 million). The sprawling estate was purchased by Earl and Countess of Strathmore – Claude and Cecila Bowes Lyon – who are the parents to the Queen Mother. It has been in the Royal Family since the early 1920s.
Historic Estate Once Owned by Queen Elizabeths Grandparents On Sale
Elizabeth and her younger sister Margaret often played in the grand gardens at Woolmers, a name which has now become synonymous with polo, until her grandparents sold the property in 1949.
Along with its meticulously renovated 1730s eight-bedroom, eight-bathroom mansion, Woolmers Park is now home to the Hertfordshire Polo Club — just the spot where the Queen’s son Charles trained when he was attending Cambridge University.
The stunning estate, which was most recently sold in 1997, has now been put on the market with Savills and Knight Frank in what is regarded as one of the most historic homes to come up for sale this year.
