Conceptual artist Christo Vladimirov Javacheff and his artwork ‘The Floating Piers‘ allow visitors to “walk on water” across an Italian lake. Over 200,000 floating bright-orange cubes create a triangular dock atop Lake Iseo in Italy’s Lombardy region. A walkway stretching three kilometers, or nearly two miles, connects two small islands to each other and to the mainland.
“It’s not a painting, it’s not a sculpture. You need to walk on it… feel it with the sun, with the rain, with the wind. It’s physical, not virtual” Christo explained.
“The Floating Piers” cost 15 million euros ($16.7 million) to create but will be open to the public for free, day and night, and is expected to attract 500,000 visitors by the time it closes (July 3).
