At Bonhams’ sale at the Quail Lodge on August 19 during Monterey Car Week will be offered a racing Bugatti Type 51. With model Type 51, Bugatti actually replaced very successful Type 35 (which recorded more than 1,000 victories), but Type 51 wasn’t nearly as successful as its predecessor. However, the Type 51, which goes under the hammer next month attracts attention by the fact that raced four times in the Monaco Grand Prix, and was driven by Tazio Nuvolari at Brooklands race in 1933.
The car is one of the first produced copies, chassis number 51121, and in the last 50 years has changed only two owners.
