The wife of Turkish President Emina Erdogan claims to live modestly after the strict Muslim values, but her favorite pastime is spending money. Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife live in the palace, which costed nearly 600 million euros and has 1,000 rooms. In addition to the palace in Ankara, they have at least two luxury residences in Turkey. Emina loves designer clothes and doesn’t hesitate to spent enormous amounts of money on it.
In a country where a quarter of the population lives in poverty, the first lady praises drinking a special tea that costs about 1,800 euros per kilogram and drink it from the golden cup that cost almost 300 euros.
She once closed down a shopping mall in Brussels to go on a designer shopping tour. According to some reports, as he accompanied her husband on an official visit to Warsaw, she spent more than 44,000 euros in one antiques bazaar.
No doubt that all that she purchased will find its place in a huge palace.
The walls of the palace is decorated with silk wallpaper that cost around 2,800 euros per roll, with around 400 rooms have double doors at the cost of 42,000 euros.
Erdogan’s critics say that the building is so extravagant that even Saddam Hussein, known for his love of gold and jewels, embarrassed.
Some think that the palace is more like a Chinese railway station than any edifice of the former Ottoman Empire.
The building known as the “White Palace” costed twice as much as previously estimated, and Erdogan said that it shows Turkey in the best light. For its construction was used a luxurious material brought from various countries of the world.
Erdogan sees this palace as a reward for good management of the country, while his opponents believe that it is a symbol of his desire for absolute power.
As well as being the home for Erdogan, the Palace is also a command and control centre.
During the attempted military coup, the plotters were bombing the palace, but it is not yet known how much damage has thereby made.
