French audio firm Devialet revealed new Gold Phantom speaker with impossibly low-distortion sound reproduction rivaling that of speakers ten times the cost and many times the size. It actually boasts 4,500 watts of power and can achieve peak volumes of 108 decibels. That’s about as loud as a motorcycle, a power saw, or an Opeth concert. The base model Phantom puts out 750 watts, and the bigger Silver Phantom is rated at 3,000.
Phantom Gold speaker combines analog and digital amplifiers, both miniaturized. Its spherical shape makes it an ideal speaker as per the law of acoustics. The outside is actually made of Kevlar to minimize vibrations. The speaker leverages the company’s proprietary Analog Digital Hybrid (ADH) technology, which has been in the works for nearly a decade.
Phantom Gold can be yours for a cool $2,990.
