Ian McKellen said that he had refused an offer from billionaire Sean Parker to dress again Gandalf costume and show up at Parker’s wedding for a whopping $1.5 million. A common acquaintance asked Makelele, who plays the role of a wizard in Peter Jackson’s trilogy “The Lord of the Rings”, if he would like to marry Sean Parker and singer Aleksandar Lenas. “I was offered one-and-a-half million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf,” McKellen told the Daily Mail. “So I said, ‘I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings.’”
Lenas and Parker’s as themed wedding held without Gandalf in 2013 in a magical world at a campsite in Big Sur, California. The guests sat at tables covered with white fur where served whole roasted pigs, goats, bunnies and a 9-foot-tall wedding cake. Each of the more than 350 guests “was custom-fitted in Tolkien-esque garb by Ngila Dickson, the costume designer who won an Academy Award for The Lord of the Rings.”
The organization and maintenance of such a theme wedding reportedly costed between $4.5 million and $10 million.
