Ecology and sustainable development – imperatives that are came even to the fashion industry. Felder sisters, Daniela and Annette have designed a dress that is made of carbon fibers originating from the same factory where produce carbon fiber for BMW i3 and BMW i8. It’s not very often that the fashion industry look for inspiration in the world of cars. However, German twins came up with the idea that their design studio presents a special collection of unusual dress to mark the tenth anniversary.
Each piece of clothing is made of fabrics which are a good part of the composition of carbon fibers. The star of the collection is “Carbon Dress”, which required more than 100 hours of work. It is directly inspired by the BMW “i3” and “i8” models, and their ecological characteristics. Thus, 97 percent of materials used to make the dress is carbon fiber from BMW’s electric vehicle program.
The carbon fabrics are amazing and unlike anything we’ve used before – we are honored to be given access to them before anyone else. The woven fiber allows us to do more with the designs and push the boundaries of sustainable fashion. It adds amazing structure and the frayed carbon looks so great as tassels. We can’t wait to show everyone the collection,” said Daniela and Annette Felder.
The complete collection was displayed last week at a VIP Event in London, which marked the second year of cooperation between the design studio Felder Felder and BMW “i” divisions.
