The Lady 8 was the first ladies’ timepieces by Jaquet Droz and it was an instant hit from its launch in 2013. Since then, the brand has released several different skews of the same model, but they all had many things in common.
The latest version of the Lady 8 features the same figure 8 shape but this time the top dial has been adorned with a flower that literally blooms for the wearer. The upper dial features a lotus flower, again a symbol considered sacred in some Asian cultures, which can blossom at the simple push of a button at 2 o’clock.
Mimicking the opening and closing of a real lotus, the complication includes six gold petals which are polished and satin-brushed by hand and open to reveal a twirling sapphire or ruby in the heart of the flower. The actual watch dial is made from white mother-of-pearl.
The watch is powered by two movements, one for the flower automaton and one for the actual watch. Both movements are visible through the transparent caseback. The self-winding Caliber 29 watch movement offers a 38 hour power reserve.
The watch is available in rose and white gold. As you might have questted, the white gold and rose gold models are each limited to only 8 pieces, making 16 in total.
