Dr David Wickett , the brain behind Cambridge-based firm DavidHugh Ltd, has created a chair which defies gravity. Elysium chair makes you feel like you’re floating in water. Elysium is a bespoke item based on intimate client consultation. The name of the chair comes from the Greek word which means a state or place of perfect bliss. This is the only chair in the world that gives a weightless experience, thanks to a combination of a lightweight carbon fibre skeleton and a set of joints that are set perfectly in equilibrium.
Elysium is fitted with the patented frictionless technology which acts as a virtual cam to move the body with absolute ease. It translates the rotational movement of the body into a linear horizontal motion path for the body’s centre of gravity and ensures the body is always in balance.
The chair has two modes of use. Experience the lightest recline action available in a chair with a locking function. Touch a lever to access continuous frictionless balance controlled by gesture.
“Bang & Olufsen offers the perfect synergy with Elysium, as it too combines uncompromising design with incredible performance,” says the chair’s designer and creator, David Wickett. “Bang & Olufsen and Elysium speak the same visual language that is great to see together. The Knightsbridge Bang & Olufsen showroom is a modern, evocative yet relaxing space where each individual can find their own unique experience of Elysium.”
There will be a launch edition of only 20 chairs that will set you back $26,000. Each launch edition chair will feature a numbered, engraved gold panel, reading “DavidHugh Launch Edition.”
