Each year, for 12 years, the Montblanc Maison will edit a unique masterpiece celebrating the eastern zodiac of the year. With a unique handcrafted motif on the cap of sterling silver, each edition will differ in design and meaning.
This year, Montblanc realised adds two new models: The Legend of Zodiacs – The Rooster and The Water Dragon.
The Legend of Zodiacs – The Rooster is limited to 8x8x8, honoring the lucky number in Asian cultures: 8. Consistent with cultural beliefs, the repetition of the number makes it even luckier. This writing jewel is made of deep black precious lacquer with a 925 sterling silver cap featuring a hand-crafted rooster. The cap ring is engraved with the coming year of the rooster, 2017, as well as the six previous years that fell under the sign of the rooster.

A citrine is set into the cone, while the proud, lightbringing rooster itself is celebrated in a fine engraving on the handcrafted, rhodium-coated Au 750 gold nib.
The Water Dragon is limited to 88 fountain pens worldwide. The second in the series features Jiaolong, the Water Dragon, depicted on the 925 sterling silver cap. With a coral red lacquer barrel, Au 750 solid champagne gold fittings and an amethyst set in he cone, this exquisite writing instrument is inspired by the imperial character of the Water Dragon. A delicate engraving of an antique sword on the Au 750 gold nib recalls the battle-loving Ya Zi, the second son of the nine sons of the dragon. The cap is crowned by the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl covered by sapphire glass.
