There are many highlights in Heritage Auctions’ Arms & Militaria Auction, to be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016. They include a complete German Suit of Armor in the Gothic Style, a Model 1874 Colt Gatling Gun Serial #11, a published and known Colt Walker, a superb Remington Dogs Head cane, and Queen Victoria’s scarf presented to Sgt. William Colclough of the 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. The auction also features some of the best swords ever to hit the auction block, such as: A Cased Ames Sword presented to Colonel Jesse H. Moore “The Fighting Pastor”, unquestionably one of the most spectacular Civil War Era Ames presentation Staff Officers sword ever offered in a public sale.
Heritage Auctions’ Arms & Militaria Auction
A High Grade Tiffany sword, 1 of 4 known, sometimes referred to as the “Cannon-Hilt Sword,” presented to General Leman W. Bradley by the 64th New York for his gallantry in Defense of His Country. There are only four known to exist, with all being presented to Officers that attained the minimum rank of Brigadier General.
Rounding out the highly embellished and historical grouping of over ten presentation swords is a Sauerbier High Grade Cavalry Sword presented to Captain Charles Haughtelling, hero of “The Slaughter Pen,” by thirteen fellow officers (five who became Generals!) for gallantry at Murfreesboro December 31, 1862 – January 2, 1863. This lot also includes his frock coat, belt, and sash.
