At Design Miami 2016, Perrier-Jouët continues its ongoing creative collaborations through an artistic partnership with San Francisco-based designer Andrew Kudless. Champagne producer presents Marc Metamorphosis ice bucket to mark its five-year partnership with DesignMiami. This limited-edition ice bucket, is one of four pieces that represent Kudless’s visionary works build on Perrier-Jouët’s historic ties with Art Nouveau.
To create an innovative piece, Kudless has 3D-printed ground Chardonnay skins. It features a wrinkled, raisin-like texture. “The grapes were dried and ground to a powder before being 3D printed, and the ice bucket reproduces the texture of a grape as it dries,” says Kudless.
Other products in the collection are an internally lit table, oak benches and an installation.
The installation comprises three screens of curving, tree trunk-like forms that delineate an intimate central space. Each strand is illuminated from within by light that subtly changes in intensity and filters through the semi-translucent panels. Described by Kudless as a “clearing in a forest”, Strand Garden is a haven of sorts, offering visitors a calm place to pause for a while away from the sensory overload of the fair.
The benches interlock together and feature robotically-milled oak tops. Their concrete legs have been treated to mimic the chalk that shelters the maison’s cellars and nourishes its vines. A clear bioplastic glowing table at the center of the space evokes the clarity and vibrant bubbles of Perrier-Jouët’s wines. The glowing white table has been 3-D printed from bio-plastic.
