Here is the first expression of the 10 year collaboration betwen Richard Mille and famed Formula 1 constructor: new Richard Mille RM 50-03 McLaren F1, which is presented at SIHH 2017.
The RM 50-03 McLaren F1 weights less than 40 grams including new “comfort” strap, which makes it the lightest mechanical chronograph ever made. This landmark has been achieved through the use of cutting-edge technical materials.
The design not only incorporates Titanium and Carbon TPT, but also introduces an entirely new material into the world of watchmaking: Graph TPT, more comonly known as Graphene. This revolutionary material is six time lighter than steel, but 200 times more resistant.
Despite the introduction of Graphene, Carbon TPTTM keeps its signature look of beautiful undulating wood-like striations.
The graphene is added to resin and during the production process of bonding Carbon TPTTM’s 600 parallel layers, the 30 microns thin lament sandwich is then bonded with the super-charged resin and then compiled by a CNC machine that shifts the orientation of the bres by 45° between layers. The composite is then solidified by heating it to 120°C, at 6 Bar of pressure.
Limited to 75 pieces, the RM 50-03 is the first dual-brand timepiece by McLaren-Honda and Richard Mille.
