Rilakkuma is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company San-X. “Rilakkuma” means “Bear in relaxed mood”. At all time and everywhere he goes he is continuously lazy and relaxed. Rilakkuma appears on items such as stationery, dishware, backpacks, and stuffed animals. But, there’s one new release that’s set to be more exclusive and sought after than any other we’ve ever seen.
This little charm is called a “netsuke” in Japanese, which is traditionally a miniature carving attached to the end of a cord that can be used to hang off a pouch. And, this one is so extravagant and expensive because it is made of 20 grams (0.71 ounces) of 24k pure gold. Also, its price of 702,000 yen (US$6,179.80) is justified with another luxury detail – diamond-encrusted belly. It comes in its own character-branded box for gift-giving and safekeeping.
Those who are willing to pay that whopping price for the solid gold Rilakkuma, it is available to order online from San-X until 26 January. Delivery is scheduled for mid-March.
