In 2016 Jean Todt celebrated his 50th year in the high-performance automobile industry and Richard Mille created three watch models to honor this milestone, each bearing Todt’s name and his favorite colors: the RM 11-03, RM 050 and RM 056 Jean Todt 50th Anniversary. RM 11-03 Flyback Chronograph is dashingly sporty and is clearly inspired by automobiles. The very fascinating dial is a nod and an allusion to the exciting world of motorsports. The architectural automatic calibre in grade 5 titanium.
The RM 11-03 Jean Todt 50th Anniversary is protected by a new blue and white Quartz TPTTM case. Not only is the look of the case exceptionally striking, but it is also extremely resistant and light. Turns out that composite is obtained by stacking 600 layers of silica only 45 microns thick, which are then impregnated with an exclusive Richard Mille blue resin! The assembly is then heated to 120 °C before being machined in the brand’s factory. It will be produced in limited editions of 150.
The RM 050 Jean Todt 50th Anniversary also benefits from the use of the Blue Quartz TPTTM. This calibre houses a split-seconds chronograph regulated by a tourbillon. This movement is particularly light. This is thanks to the extreme skeletisation of the bridges and baseplate, combined with the use of titanium and carbon nanofibre. Indeed, it weighs only 9.5 grams but offering startling performance! This model is limited to only 5 pieces.
The RM 056 also houses this mechanism in a sapphire case. But here, the painstaking work on the case (1,000 hours of machining per case, including 430 hours devoted to grinding and 350 hours of polishing) undoubtedly steals the show! The excellence is evident in construction and curvature. The case has achieved an astounding level of ergonomics and finish, unique even in fine watchmaking.
RM 056 will be produced in just 3 pieces.
