For the upcoming 2017 edition of Baselworld, Hamilton unveiled one really cool, vintage-inspired and affordable automatic chronograph – the Intra-Matic 68. New addition to the brand’s lineup for 2017, actually pays homage to classic Hamilton chronographs from the ’60s, like the Chrono-matic and the Chronograph B (launched in 1968, hence the 68’s name).
Its reverse panda dial design is excellent and really well balanced, but unlike previous models which have the 36mm case, this new one is moved up to 42mm, making it a rather big watch. Some would say that would have been perfect at 38 or 40 mm. But at that size and at $2,195 retail…opinions are divided.
Powering this new chronograph is Hamilton’s H-31 caliber, a reworked version of the venerable Valjoux 7750 with a power reserve upped from 42 to 60 hours.
The Hamilton Intra-Matic 68 is secured to the wrist by an also vintage-style perforated leather strap, again quite automative-inspired.
Hamilton Intra-Matic 68 will be limited to only 1,968 examples.
