Auction house Sotheby’s in London unveiled a diamond “Pink Star” before, in April be offered at auction in Hong Kong.
It is expected that the diamond will fetch more than $60 million, which would represent a record for a pink diamond that was sold at auction, Sotheby’s said.
A 59.6-carat pink diamond unearthed in Africa in 1999, an so far is the largest pink diamond in the best purity scale (internally flawless, fancy vivid pink stone) of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
David Bennett, worldwide chairman of Sotheby’s Jewellery division said the size and color of the diamond “surpassed every pink diamond” which has been found.
In 2015, Sotheby’s sold “Blue Moon of Josephine” diamond for $48,5 million.
