According to several historians from the Victorian era, the doctors led women to”hysterical paroxysm” (orgasm) through massage pelvis (obviously masturbation). No wonder why invented vibrating devices that help doctors to rest their weary fingers. One such object, whose value is estimated at €500-€800, was presented last weekend by Matthews auctioneers in County Meath, Ireland.
The vibrator is made of ivory which its original owner brought from trip to India, and is considered to have originated around 1840.
The gift was personal, dedicated to his wife, as evidenced by the engraved heart at the base of vibrator and hollowed-out space with a cover in which the owner kept locks of hair of her husband.
“For 25 years I visit the exhibition and I have never seen anything like it,” said one of those present ladies.
“At a time when 99 percent of the population barely survived, perhaps 400 or 500 families had cases like this. This is not only an erotic toy – this is a work of art and a fascinating part of social history, “explained the other lady.
