Since 2008, the famous scotch whiskey distillery The Macallan has been slowly releasing a limited edition series of unique bottling inspired by some of the world’s top photographers: Rankin, Albert Watson, Annie Lebowitz, Elliott Erwitt and Mario Testino. This year, The Macallan Masters of Photography series partnered with Steven Klein to explore an ingredient fundamental in the making of The Macallan: time.
The unspoken fourth ingredient in The Macallan as each bottle of whisky captures a moment in time; to be enjoyed in the future – but always rooted to a time in the past.
According to the distillery, Steven Klein Edition is tied to the theme of time. To that end, Klein used his skills “to create a short film and ten individual images of an incredible tableau.” The whisky is something a first for The Macallan, in that it is their first ever use of casks previously used for Rioja wine, resulting in an expression said to have “sweetness and vibrancy unseen before in any Macallan.”
The Steven Klein release features an exclusive signed print by Klein, a black leather case, a horse head bottle stopper, and a selection of custom barware tools. 1,000 boxes were released, with only 100 dedicated to the US market.
