Good news for all owners of 2016 or 2017 model car from Mercedes-Benz in the US. Few days ago, they can connect with both Amazon and Google’s digital voice assistants, taking the smart home experience out on the road. This actually means that Mercedes owners can instruct their Google Home or Amazon Echo to remotely start or lock their vehicles, as well as send addresses to their in-car navigation system. In a promo video, the owners can even remotely control smart home devices while driving around, so things like lights, air conditioning and more are turned off back at the house.

“We want to offer our customers a broad range of services 24/7, not just when they are in our cars,” says Nils Schanz, head of Mercedes-Benz North America’s Internet of Things and Wearable Integration (how’s that for a title). “Mercedes-Benz’s goal is creating an intelligent ecosystem around cars and developing cutting-edge technology to make everyday life more convenient for our customers.”

In order to set up either of the AI assistants, you’ll need an active Mercedes me account and an active mbrace subscription. Then, you’ll need to link the Alexa or Google Home app with your phone’s Mercedes me app, through which you’ll be able to use the voice control features. The car maker says the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa support will be added in Europe sometime later in 2017.
