All of you who have ever been in Ikea, certainly know their dinstictive “Frakta” bag. It is assumed that people at Balenciaga also know them, but that did not stop, maybe even inspired them to create the new Arena extra large shopper tote.
The similarity between this two bags is amazing. Both are electric blue, have a similar construction and are big enough to comfortably carry your necessities.
The main differences between them are price $2,145 for the designer option, and 99 cents for the IKEA version, and material – glazed leather instead of recyclable plastic.
“We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the Ikea iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!” a spokesperson for Ikea said.
This isn’t the first time Balenciaga has found design inspiration in an unlikely source.
Last year, they debuted another copy-cat bag, this one resembling a bag commonly used to carry laundry in Thailand.
