Come to Costa Rica and become one with nature. Approximately this is the job description that offer company Holiday Pirates and organization World Parrot Trust, which are ready to pay £1,500 per month for it.
They are looking for orntofil, ie. lover of birds, who would be dedicated to the protection of tropical birds. A typical day will start with feeding the birds at 6am! With over 100 parrots macaws to feed there are tens of kgs of fruit and veg to prepare every day. Feeding the birds includes the released flock of 30 parrots, which are amazing to see! You will be involved in monitoring the birds that come in to feed.
Most mornings will include cleaning and maintaining the aviaries. Keeping so many
macaws in good health takes a lot of cleaning.
The lunch break is long so you probably either siesta or walk 1km on quiet dirt roads to the beach and Pacific Ocean. Afternoon activities typical include going
into the forest with other team members to collect branches that you will then provide as environmental enrichment; foraging for native fruits to feed the birds; or maintaining our nature trial and parrot viewing area. Before feeding the parrots again which ends the day’s work.
During August, as part of Project Ara that promotes the protection of tropical parrots, the best candidate will spend a month in Punta Islita, Costa Rica.
He or she will work with conservationists four weeks, take care of parrots, write updates and take cool photos for social media of birds in their natural habitat.
