Sanlorenzo has unveiled first details of its new SX88 crossover yacht at a press conference in Milan. Described by the Italian yard as “a Copernican revolution”, this 88’6” (27-meter) motoryacht has several stand-out features.
Built from a GRP hull and carbonfibre superstructure, the yacht incorporates the best features of an explorer and a flybridge yacht. SX88 boasts highest environment sustainability attention thanks to the use of low impact materials and process. Fitting for her sporty looks, the Sanlorenzo SX88 should achieve a 23-knot top speed. It comes via a Volvo Penta IPS propulsion system.

Also, the Sanlorenzo SX88 is receiving RINA’s Green Plus classification, too. A battery bank should permit systems to operate in zero-emission mode for four to eight hours.
Even with these, though, customers will likely talk more about the creature comforts. Immediately noticeable, the transom is a big, open space. It’s in sharp contrast to nearly every other offering available. The transom is part huge swim platform, part beach club, and part toy platform. To preserve the SX88’s lines, Sanlorenzo tucks the tender davit into the port-side handrail.
The skylounge is another star feature, with a fixed forward windshield in front of the sole helm position and three-metre long side windows that can be lowered completely. A dedicated lounging area, aft of the mast, is left open to the elements.
The main deck has been designed without a superyacht wheelhouse, thus allowing guests to move from the cockpit to the bow with the minimum of obstacles and only two steps. Cutaway bulkwarks will help to increase the amount of light permeating this open-plan area, which comprises a saloon, galley and dining area.

The Sanlorenzo SX88 will be offered with a choice of three layouts without moving any structural elements. The owner’s cabin can either be situated forward on the main deck or amidships on the lower deck.
The Sanlorenzo SX88 represents a collaboration between the in-house design department and several prominent studios. Officina Italiana Design took care of styling. Lou Codega, renowned for sportfishing yachts and trawlers, handled naval architecture. Finally, Piero Lissoni penned the interior design.
SX88 will be officially introduced to the market and press during Cannes Yachting Festival in September. The international market already welcomed SX88, buying the first six units. Next deliveries will be available starting from spring 2018.
