Felissimo is Japanese online retailer which had previously wowed us with their unusual or better to say weird products such as cat-scented perfume, hand cream that smells like a cat’s paw, lip gloss that makes you feel like you’ve just kissed a cat’s nose, and fabric water filled with the fragrance of fluffy cat foreheads. They do not stop at that, but now presents new product that you can scratch and sniff onto, for when you miss your loved one pet.
So, for ¥432 (US$3.90), you can get yourself a pack of seven funny cards that, upon being rubbed, give off fragrances resembling the bellies of cats and dogs.
These cards weren’t manufactured out of sheer fluff – hours of research went into finding the right scents that matched the fragrances of pets’ tummies. The company surveyed pet owners, asking them to describe what the bellies smell like.
Cat owners said their felines’ tummies smelled of “burnt caramel popcorn” and “freshly made pancakes coated in maple syrup”, while dog owners thought dogs’ pooches resembled “broad beans and grass growing in the sun” and “slightly overdone toast”.
The brand then worked with a fragrance company to create pancake-and-burnt-butter cards for cats and roasted bean-smelling cards for dogs—or rather, Shiba Inus. What do you think about this?
