Fruits are not healthy and good just as food, it has a lot of widespread use. For example, BMW’s employees will be protected from injuries at work, respectively, will be part of their safety equipment. BMW, in collaboration with six other companies, including several German universities, has developed BISS technology (Bio-Inspired Safety Systems). As material in helmets, protective vests and gloves was used Pomelo – citrus fruit. Namely, Pomelo does not break apart or become too damaged after the fall from high altitudes, so it is the perfect material for protective equipment.
The new helmet is 20 percent lighter, and in the same time it is stronger and more durable than existing conventional materials.
Products that are developed within the BISS project can also be used in the manufacture of protective helmets used in sports activities, such as cycling or skiing.
Prototypes of other protective materials have been developed on the model of the alligator armor skin, and BMW believes that they could be used in factories of this manufacturer, to help protect the exposed parts of the body of workers on production lines and to prevent injuries that can be inflicted by sharp parts of cars when mounting a vehicle.
