The famous Porsche 917K in Gulf Racing colors, from an even more famous movie “Le Mans” with Steve McQueen, will be on sale in August, with an estimated value of around $15 million. If some racing car has become popular over the past decades, then it is certainly the legendary Porsche 917 in the more famous Gulf Oil colors, which not only celebrated in the Le Mans races in the early ’70s, but also immortalized in the cult film Le Mans from 1971, with an unrepeatable Steve McQueen.

Just one such car, which took part in the Le Mans tests in the 1970s and later was one of the protagonists in the 1971 film of the same name, is “coming out” for an auction in August during the Pebble Beach event. It’s a chassis 917-024, driven by Brian Redman and Mike Hailwood.
During the film, the car used mainly as a vehicle on which a complicated camcorder was mounted, and after the film, it was sold to a private collector in Paris. It spent almost two decades in the warehouse, and finally “discovered” in 2001.

According to information, the car, which was in this very good condition, was completely restored by the Swiss company Graber Sportgarage, with all the original spare parts. According to announcements, the Gooding & Company auction house estimates that this copy will bring between $13 and $16 million.
