A bottle of extremely rare wines from the renowned Australian winery Penfolds was sold for Aus$51,750 (US$40,825).
This price could represent a record when it comes to the price of a single bottle of wine.
It is about 1951 Penfolds Grange, the first harvest of this red wine from the collection mostly on the basis of shiraz, and is believed fewer than 20 bottles of the 1951 vintage still exist, with a handful in private ownership and the rest in the Penfolds Museum.

“It is very unusual to get that sort of money, but this particular bottle is part of Australian wine history. We believe it is one of the most expensive wines sold in Australia,” said Nick Stamford, owner of MW Wines which auctioned the bottle in Melbourn, without revealing the name of the buyer.
