The legendary racing model, Shelby GT350R from 1965, will soon be rebuilt with the help of several people who are responsable for the original version of this car. GT350R will be restored to life as a licensed product by Ford and Shelby, and will be produced by the Original Venice Crew team, which includes three former Shelby American workers from the 1960s, Peter Brock, Jim Mariet and Ted Saton.
The “new” GT350R is based on Ford Mustang from 1965 and will be powered by a 4.7 liter V8, paired with a four-speed Borg Warner transmission. Basically, it’s the same base that was used for the original Shelby, but some of the modifications that Peter Brok predicted even for the original model, but they were not realized for short time periods.
The modifications include a new front bumper with spoiler, plexiglas windows and independent rear suspension, developed by Ford.
Production starts in Autumn, and the car will be authentic to the original, both mechanical and design, including the spartan look of the cabin. It is planned a limited series of just 36 pieces.
