Saudi king Salman is known as a man who does not save – whether it’s a megalomaniac project or a vacation. This other cost him incredible 100 million euros.
Favorite destination for King of Saudi Arabia is Tangier in Marocco. At the end of July, he went to his annual summer holiday to Morocco. He was greeted by Moroccan Prime Minister Saadeddine Othmani at Tangier airport.
The king brought with him no fewer than 1,000 people from his entourage. More than 800 rooms in the most luxurious hotels in the city have been reserved for ministers, advisers and relatives. Also, over 200 cars were rented, but the king himself brought a few luxury two-wheelers. Several catering companies have also been involved in cooking the best quality foods.
No matter how megalomaniac sounds, this is nothing unusual for the Saudi king. When he traveled to Indonesia in March he took as many as 459 tonnes of luggage and two Mercedes. However, he then led less staff with him – only 620.
This year’s visit is being hailed as a welcome boost for the local economy and the holiday is expected to account for 1.5 per cent of the country’s foreign tourism revenue.
There is even a special hospital, as well as luxury restaurants, within the complex where Saudi king spend his holiday. It was renovated in 2016, and the works included the addition of new facilities, a helicopter landing place and a large tent under which parties are organized.
King Salman has many properties all over the world, including apartments in Paris, the castle on the Cote d’Azur and palace in Marbella.
