Last week, coffee lovers had a rare opportunity to taste the world’s most expensive coffee at the 601 Experience for the price of $55. The blend, called Esmeralda Geisha Canas Verdes Natural, was bought at auction by Jason Kew, of the Sydney Coffee Business, for $601 per pound. The purchase price broke the world record, which was previously $350 per pound.
Mr Kew paid for all 100 pounds in an online auction narrowly outbidding a Japanese investor by $1. He later sold 40 pounds to the man he outbid at his cost price. And he told that he “wanted to share it with coffee lovers”.
He’s teamed up with Seven Miles Coffee Roasters to host a tasting called the 601 Experience – at the store in Manly Vale.
So, for $55, the purchaser received 15 grams of roasted Esmeralda Geisha Cañas Verdes and admit entry to the 601 Experience event. The purchaser had the option to bring a friend free of charge but must select “additional event attendee” when processing payment. For $121, the purchaser received 50 grams of the Esmeralda Geisha Cañas Verdes in green beans.
