TAG Heuer’s new Monaco Gulf Special Edition 2017 is a special edition version of the model worn by Steve McQueen, and helps celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Gulf Racing.
The Monaco Gulf Special Edition’s dial features the same blue and orange racing stripes and Gulf logo as Porsche 917 which McQueen raced in the movie, which just sold for $14 million. The distinctive color scheme is echoed by the blue perforated leather rally strap accented with orange stitching.
Monaco Gulf Special Edition will come in a 39mm steel case which houses the Swiss made TAG Heuer Calibre 11 automatic with it’s 59 jewels, and 40 hour power reserve being behind it all. This movement drives the hours, minutes, seconds and twin square chronograph counters at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock mark. There’s also a date window at the 6 o’clock marker just below the Gulf logo.
Though the new special edition piece is now available for pre-sale through September 15 on TAGHeuer.com, retailing for $5,900, the piece will be on display for the first time on October 13 and 14 in New York at the annual Watch Time New York watch show.
