Lamborghini has unveiled an even faster S version of its V12-powered Aventador Roadster which will be premiered in full at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Before tiet to be unveiled on September 12, the Italian car maker released full pictures and technical information overnight. The big news is that the V12 convertible benefits from the full upgrades recently introduced by the Aventador S coupe.
That means that under its rear boot lid you find a 6.5-litre V12 that churns out 30kW more than the standard car, boosting total power and torque to 544kW/690Nm.
Delivering total power at a stratospheric 8500rpm (150rpm more than the old engine) the new convertible can hit 100km/h in just three seconds dead — a mere 0.1sec slower than the coupe.
Top speed, meanwhile, is 349km/h – exactly the same as its tin-top sibling.
Weighing in at 1625kg, the Aventador S Roadster carries a weight penalty of just 50kg over the coupe.
Beneath its skin the updated Roadster gets the faster seven-speed single-clutch automated manual transmission, new magnetic dampers and a tweaked all-wheel drive system that can send up to 90 per cent of all that torque to the rear axle to allow more oversteer than the old model.
The Aventador S Roadster comes with a completely rethought aero package that incorporates the coupe’s redesigned front bumper and active rear wing that can produce 50 per cent more downforce in it most aggressive setting.
There’s lots of Alcantara and leather inside, gloss carbon fibre, those two, 6kg roof panels that store under the bonnet, and the option to go nuts with Lamborghini’s Ad Personam department. Wheels? Massive. 20s up front, 21s at the back, wrapped in Pirelli P Zeros developed specially for the S Roadster.
UK prices start from £251,462 minus tax, so you’re looking at more like £302,000.
