In Dubai everything is the biggest. From the world’s tallest building trough the world’s largest mall, to the world’s largest indoor ski slope …Now, this town has announced plans to built the world’s largest space simulation city. The biggest space simulation city in history will provide “a viable and realistic model to simulate living on the surface of Mars.”
At a cost of nearly US$140 million dollars, this project will be designed by one of the world’s flashiest architects, Bjarke Ingels, whose company is literally called BIG. It will cover almost 177,000 square metres, and alongside its agricultural and food security testing, it will include laboratories for food, energy and water.
Mars Science City
The simulation city will also include a museum that “displays humanitys greatest space achievements, including educational areas meant to engage young citizens with space, and inspire in them a passion for exploration and discovery.”
Through advanced 3D printing technology and radiation insulation, the laboratories will imitate Mars’s harsh conditions – in which a team of participants will live for a year.
The Mars Science City project will consist of several domes, with innovative construction techniques throughout; it will be carried out by a team of Emirati scientists, engineers and designers, led by a team from the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre and Dubai Municipality.
