A Malibu estate owned for two decades by television host Johnny Carson is listing for $81.5 million. The home was acquired by fashion mogul and film producer Sidney Kimmel for about $46 million in 2007, two year’s after Carson’s death.
The secluded, oceanfront estate on a bluff in Point Dume, is set on four acres, with lush, manicured grounds, a saltwater pool and a championship tennis court.
Built in 1980, the 7,083-square foot house has five bedrooms, four and a half baths and four fireplaces. It boasts an indoor arboretum topped with a 30-foot high glass ceiling, and the double triangle-shaped living room has a sunken copper and glass fireplace. Interiors include a formal dining room, updated chef’s kitchen and an elevator.
The master suite takes up a whole floor, with his and her bathrooms, walk-in closets and a pair of private offices.
A lower entertainment level contains an outdoor lounge, indoor-outdoor dining room and a wine cellar, media room and bar.
There is a three-car garage as well as a separate parking area for staff, and an open patio with a heated pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The property also has direct beach access.
