Vacheron Constantin introduced its new model to mark the upcoming Year of the Chinese zodiac. This is the new Vacheron Constantin Year of the Dog edition with two models – a model with a platinum blue dial and a white gold dog, or a version with a pink gold burnished red dial and a pink gold dog – with both variations being produced in 12 pieces.

For dial decorations, the Vacheron Constantin brand used the old art of cutting paper, known in China as Jianzhi. It is a method that is close to the Swiss method, called Scherenschnitt. The main engravers and masters working with enamel from the workshops of this brand used a combination of these two methods to create an engraved leaf figure on the dial. The design is partially embroidered and viewed through a sapphire crystal, it looks like floating above the dials.
To create a blue and burnished red dial, they used Grand Feu’s enameling technique. Grand Feu enameling is a difficult task that requires a lot of time, and every dial with minor imperfections is discarded in the creation process.

A center of attention on these timepieces – a dog, sits in the center of the dial. Made of platinum or pink gold, the dog is shaped so that it looks as if it is moving with a raised paw. The attention paid to the details is simply incredible, which can be seen in the fur of a dog that works very realistically.
These timepoints have four functions on their dials, which display hours, minutes, days and dates, each of which is started by the Calibre 2460 G4 mechanism. The fine final details of the mechanism are seen through the back of the watch made of sapphire crystal.

Simple and complicated at the same time, these timepieces come with Mississippiensis alligator leather belts, which are hand-sewn and finally decorated with clasps of platinum or pink gold. The diameter of these watches is 40mm, and they are waterproof to a depth of 30 meters.
We have not heard anything about the price of these models, but if it is judged by last year’s edition, the pink gold version will cost us $100,000, while the platinum will be estimated at around $125,000. Which one would you choose?
