The Swiss watchmaker Strom presented us “In Memoriam HR Giger” watch, one of the last projects where a respected artist worked before his death …
As a true wearable, artistic sculpture, this watch has a legendary biomehanoid, created by HR Gigera. Famous by his fantastically realistic work, HR Giger has reached the globe with the creation of a monster for the 1979 film Ridley Scott, Alien, for which he won an Academy Award next year, in the category “Best Visual Effects”.
Deeply shocked by the death of this man, who was his friend, Daniel Strom waited three years before he presented the watch they work together, named “In Memoriam HR Giger”, as a perfect homage to this legend. For the official launch, Strom has chosen the HR Giger Museum, where is the famous biomehanoid, also featured on this watch.
With the support of the widow of this famous artist, the watchmaker brand introduced this incredible watch, which will be produced in a limited edition of 99 pieces. With a silver enclosure, the biomehanoid, which is certainly in the spotligh, while its parts of the piece are carved in the center of the case.
The silver dial, which is entirely handmade, was also inspired by HR Giger’s work, or ELP II canvas, which he created in just one night. Otherwise, this artwork was stolen in 2005 and never returned to the right owner, despite the evidence pointing to the perpetrator.
For Daniel Storm, the skull with its lively mouth in the picture symbolizes the changing nature of existence, which is otherwise the theme that has been explored in the Agonium collection. In Memoriam HR Giger is the sixth opus of this line.
