Ducati unveils its updated Monster 821: the most balanced version of the iconic Monster range. It was created to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the original Ducati Monster 900 that was unveiled at the Cologne Show back in 1992. The Monster 821 is the first of five new models in the 2018 Model Year. The other four will be announced at EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show, which runs November 9-12.

Monster 821 gets a new gas tank and tail end that takes styling cues from the new Monster 1200. A new racing silencer and headlight – both classic and contemporary, are also part of the new design. For a clear, immediately readable view of all necessary information, on the mid-size Monster, a color TFT display is also making its debut – provided with selected gear and fuel indicators. The Ducati Quick Shift up/down and the Ducati Multimedia Systems are now available as accessories, to further enhance the already excellent riding experience offered by the 821.

The exhaust also looks similar to the unit on the Monster 1200. The engine remains unchanged, but the new silencer does reduce the 821’s performance numbers, reducing the claimed peak power from 110.5 hp to 107.3 hp at 9250 rpm, while claimed torque output is reduced from 65.9 lb-ft. to 63.4 lb-ft. It’s an odd choice, considering the 2017 Monster 821 was already Euro 4 compliant, and the changes actually increase emissions slightly while reducing fuel economy by 1.7 mpg to 43.5 mpg.

Monster 821 arrives with the Ducati Safety Pack that includes: 8-level traction control (plus off); three-level Bosch ABS (plus off); and three rider modes: Sport (109HP), Touring (109HP) and Urban (75HP).
Stopping the 2018 Monster 821 are Brembo Brakes, including dual 320mm discus up front squeezed by M4-32 Monoblock radial calipers. It uses a 43mm front fork and shock absorber with adjustable preload, and a dual-sided swingarm.
2018 Ducati Monster 821 will be offered for $11,995 with three color options: red with matching trellis frame, black with a black frame, or yellow with a black frame.
