Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago has launched a wine that combines three Grange vintages
It is the first time Penfolds has created a blended Grange, using wine from the 2008, 2012 and 2014 vintages.
“It’s a pretty bolshie and gutsy step to create such a different turn on this thing we call Grange,” Mr Gago said.
Penfolds says each vintage selected for the blend brings something different to the final product: the 2008 is big and bold; the 2012 is elegant and sophisticated; and the 2014, which is yet to be released on its own, is young and fresh.
Penfolds g3 represents the true essence of Grange; where pioneering spirit meets time-honoured Fortified & Champagne philosophies & winemaking techniques.
The result is a stunning Penfolds wine innovation intrinsically linked to the winemaking philosophy which stretches back to 1951.
Only 1,200 bottles of Penfolds g3 will be available worldwide, priced at $3000 for 750ml bottle.
