Zsa Zsa Gabor once said she had never met a diamond she didn’t like. “I never hated a man enough to give him his diamonds back,” Zsa Zsa Gabor said in 1957.
And, now, a piece from the jewelry collection that defined her glamorous style is up for auction.
It’s about the diamond rivière necklace which Hungarian-born actress wore at various events over the decades: from a dinner party with her fifth husband, Joshua S. Cosden Jr., in 1966, to galas in the 1990s.
Gabor’s diamond necklace consists of 45 brilliant-cut white diamonds, that together graduate to a total of 66 carats. The exquisite piece is designed by legendary American jeweler Harry Winston in 1964. It’s five central diamonds alone weigh 8.07, 6.34, 6.33, 5.35 and 4.88 carats respectively, with the whole necklace being nothing short of spectacular!
The sale of this necklace is therefore a rare opportunity to own a piece of Hollywood history, estimated between $1.2 million and $1.5 million.
The auction will take place at Bonhams New York at 3pm on December 4, 2017. Bids can be placed online, via telephone, in writing and in person on the day of the sale.
