On the occasion of marking 60 years of production of trucks in Brazil, Ford decided to present the so-called “smart hat”, which is intended for truck drivers, but also for those who often run over long stretches behind the steering wheel. Namely, SafeCap is equipped with chips that detect the driver’s condition.
During certain movements that occur when the driver is tired, the cap moves with audible and light alerts, and if necessary vibrates. This prevents the driver from falling asleep behind the wheel.
According to statistics in the United States, about 4,000 fatal accidents occur each year just because of fatigue. The truck drivers are the most vulnerable, who spend hours each day behind the steering wheel. In Ford, they believe that by using SafeCap, the number of accidents resulting from fatigue could be significantly reduced. This cap is currently being tested in Brazil, and the desire of the manufacturer is to expand to other markets.
