SIHH is just around the corner and for that occasion Montblanc has prepared two in-house built chronographs that are part of the TimeWalker collection: Montblanc TimeWalker Rally Timer Chronograph Limited Edition 100 watch and Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph. These timepieces are two brand new releases that bring together the best of the Montblanc manufacturing skills and two types of dial that will definitely catch the attention of watch-making and vintage chronographs fans: the panda dial and the reverse panda dial.
Montblanc TimeWalker Rally Timer Chronograph Limited Edition 100
This year’s Montblanc TimeWalker Rally Timer retains all the technical superlatives we saw in the original model from 2017, but presents them under a so-called reverse panda dial layout and color scheme. The new version also now features a beautiful brown Sfumato aged leather calf strap.
It is a watch that blends together the flavour of those classic single-button chronographs from the past that are no longer available in brands’ catalogues with the precision and prestige of the MB M16.29 calibre that can be seen through the case-back. The calibre features a so-called devil’s horn bridge inherited from the historic calibres crafted by Minerva.
The Minerva manufacture was famous for its extremely precise calibres, in 1916 already it was one of the first manufactures to craft a calibre that could measure a hundredth of a second. The modern version features a column wheel, horizontal coupling and a power reserve of 50 hours, Côtes de Genève stripes, inner angles, circular graining and beveling—as well as its fine details such as the iconic Minerva arrow, a chronograph bridge shaped in the form of a “V”, and a large screwed balance that has a traditional frequency of 18,000 bph.
The watch retains its ability to be changed from pocket watch to table clock (thanks to two arms below the case) to dashboard timer. The case can be turned from 0 to 180 degrees (or from 3 to 9 o’clock) in both directions to allow readability while driving.
Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph
New Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph, was also well worth the wait.
The timepiece comes in a 43mm wide satin-finished stainless steel case with a black ceramic bezel which has a tachymeter scale. It features the traditional “panda” white dial with three black chronograph subdials and a red chronograph second hand inspired by the Minerva arrow which contrasts the overall color scheme. This watch puts together all the features that have made the TimeWalker collection famous, like its in-house built calibres and an excellent quality/price ratio, a neo-vintage flavour that adds in to the urban-chic language of the current TimeWalker collection.
To match the panda dial, the timepiece features either a stainless steel metal bracelet or a new vintage brown Sfumato aged calf leather strap with perforated holes. The strap, from the Montblanc Pelletteria in Florence, comes fitted with a triple folding clasp.
