One of the 2017 Special Releases from Diageo, this sophisticated 18 year old Speyside single malt was distilled at little-known Glen Elgin distillery in 1998.
This 18-year-old whisky is made by combining whisky matured in two types of casks: sherry-style butts and refill European oak. The result? A temptingly creamy whisky offering a twist on the typical Speyside character.

Glen Elgin 18 ends up as a very fruit-forward whisky: vanilla toffee, banana and apple notes are fairly distinct on the nose, but we get a hit of salted caramel that’s really appealing. On the palate it begins to show some hidden depth with clove and cinnamon, and the finish is heathery and sweet. Not terribly complex but a really nice easy drinking single malt.
Only 5,352 bottles have been produced at a cask strength of 54.8% abv. It can be yours for £295 ($394).
