Artist Gabriel Dishaw uses found and recycled objects as inspiration for his work, and the latest is his Star Wars memorabilia made out of vintage Louis Vuitton bags.
An Indianapolis-based artist found inspiration while he was vacationing in northern Michigan, when he came to a pile of vintage Louis Vuitton luggage in a store called out to Gabriel Dishaw.
Dishaw immediately began to investigate how he could resource the materials such as the golden emblems that dance across the chocolate background, the zippers, the handles, the drawstring from the dust bag into art sculptures of various character masks from the Star Wars universe, such as Darth Vader helmet sculptures.
After he posted his progress on Instagram, @gabrieljunkart, people began asking to buy them.
“People were like ‘Oh my God, these are my two passions — Louis Vuitton and Star Wars,'” Dishaw said.
Along with Vader, his Star Wars-themed art includes Kylo Ren, Darth Vader, and even a Louis Vuitton Storm Trooper that can be seen in person at the Indiana State Museum, right at the entrance of the IMAX Theater.
Dishaw’s work isn’t to the Dark Side, either. He’s also created a C3PO sculpture as well.
By posting his works on Instagram, Dishaw has grown his audience to 13,000 followers, which includes collectors from all over the world. The work fetches prices in the thousands.
